Curriculum

Our Curriculum

      Making Pots with Ugandan Farmers
Eating Ugali made by our Kenyan Visitors

Our Curriculum is based on four principles:
  • Pupil Led Learning
  • Inspiring & Engaging Learning
  • Preparation for the Future
  • Teamwork
We provide many opportunities for children to take ownership of their own learning. This enables them to become highly motivated and engaged, increasing their confidence and independence while meeting individual needs.

At Coxley it is important to us that LEARNING IS FUN as this is when we learn best. Our curriculum is inspiring and exciting and includes educational visits and special visitors to give the children real experiences. The whole school shares the same topic each term so we can work across the age ranges and work together in more exciting activities.

Providing the children with the basic skills to prepare them for the future is a key prioirty for us. We teach children life skills as well as the basic skills of reading, writing and maths. We provide the children with an awareness and understanding of the world they live in looking at diversity in culture and beliefs. We currently have a link with Gilwadzi Primary School in Kenya and are working on a joint curriculum project.

The ability to work as a team member as well as a team leader is essential. The children have many opportunities to lead areas within the school through our School House Committees, School Council as well as our mixed aged activities. Communication and confidence is crucial and despite being a small school the children at Coxley always show great confidence and the ability to work well as a team in the many external events they take part in.

The video on the home page is a little taster of the things we have been doing.
